Freestyle dance

For the first time ever in Saarang - a freestyle dance event. Shake a leg - Let your hair down - do whatever suits your style, the stage shall be all yours. The event will be conducted in two stages, a preliminary round, followed by the finals. Eminent personalities from the Chennai theatre scene are expected to judge the event. Its the chance of a lifetime.

So you think you can dance?

Queen of Sheeba

Her holy majesty, the Queen of Sheeba - ruler of Abyssinia is desirous of owning a set of priceless artifacts - some of which have been lost for generation and others, only whispered of through the ages. Accordingly, she calls upon her mighty knights to search for these relics, ordering them to race towards the horizons and voyage across the seven seas to the very edge of the world - if need be, to procure them.

At Saarang, we present a tuned down version of this historical quest.

A band of Knights… A List…Beg, Borrow or Steal!

The Rush

A variant of the wildly popular "treasure hunt" event - THE RUSH aims to mobilize the crowds, sending them on a treasure hunting spree into far flung and unexplored regions of the campus. Each stage of the event will lead to or provide a clue to help you reach the next level. You will need to be sound at cracking codes, deciphering cryptic clues and of course, have the energy to cycle, walk, run and wade across campus.

Short Film Making

Making an ambitious debut at Saarang 2008 is the short film making event. Teams shall be asked to submit original films made by them from scratch - and this includes acting, videography, soundtracks, editing and special effects, if any (tentatively, of length 5 min).

It is hardly a coincidence that some of the most creatively talented men in history have also been the greatest film makers in history.

Orson Welles' all time classic introduced an improvised genre of camera work that wouldn't be appreciated until a decade after its premier.

Kubrick, the master of special effects and sci-fantasy - all this, at a time when graphic studios still used primitive analog equipment. A man ahead of his time - by a good thirty years.

Satyajit Ray made movies that were stunning in their simplicity. His brilliant portrayal of ordinary people in rural landscapes guarantees him a place in the list of greatest directors ever.

And who can leave out Hitchcock, Kurosawa and Copolla from this endless and illustrious list. The big question this Saarang - "Which one are you?"
