Classical Dance

Tired of looking at philistines jumping to popular hits? Think they’re stealing your thunder? If you’re a connoisseur of the finer arts of life, then Classical Dance is the place to be. Introduced for the first time this year at Saarang 06, Classical Dance endeavours to appreciate those masters of the art who’ve worked hard at keeping our traditions alive.

Rules:

This is a SOLO event.
Classical Dance is defined as one of the following: Bharathanatyam, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Manipuri, Mohini Attam, Kathakali.
No restrictions on what you perform as long as you stick to one of these above forms. However, film songs strongly discouraged.
Time per participant: 5+1 minutes (subject to upward revision depending on number of participants)
Side artistes (vocalists, accompaniments, etc) are not allowed. Participants are required to get their own pre-recorded cassettes or CDs. Computers and tape-recorders will be provided at the venue.
Participants are required to make their own arrangements for dress and make up. A changing room and a mirror will be arranged for the participants around half-an-hour prior to the commencement of the event. Please come prepared and well in advance to avoid last minute rush for dress and make-up.
Judges’ decision will be final and binding.
